Ernest Barber was established by Shoals native and Master Barber, Daniel Crisler, in 2021. After serving as a barber in Florence, Alabama for several years, Daniel saw a great need in the Shoals community for a truly inclusive, positive, and open-minded barbershop based on traditional barber techniques and a willingness to accommodate anyone and everyone—no matter what. In addition, maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness, professionalism, sanitation, and design aesthetic were paramount to the Ernest Barber mission. It is a shop built by the community for the community—regardless of age, race, gender, or background.

Our shop is named after Daniel’s grandfather, the late Dr. Ernest West, who served the small town of Hackleburg, Alabama, as their sole medical physician throughout the 1950s-1960s. Though he passed away young, his legacy of community care and professional standard is honored every time someone enters Ernest Barber. As Dr. Ernest West cared for every person of Hackleburg without reservation or hesitation, so do we here at Ernest Barber go the extra mile to make sure you receive the highest level of barbering service you expect and deserve.

The shop itself is a representation of things that Daniel loves. You’ll find a mix of vintage and modern—American Traditional artwork on the walls alongside photos from Seth and Marco, wrestling magazines, plants, killer music, vintage furniture, mid-century touches, and Scottish Terrier silhouettes and figures scattered around as a nod to our family’s late buddy, Simon. We are proud to be located here in the historic neighborhood of Seven Points in downtown Florence. It is home and we cannot wait to welcome you the next time you’re in our shop. Whether you need a fade, taper, trim, shave, or just a relaxing moment of good company and great music, Ernest Barber is your spot.
